Develop Musical Skills

 

Participating in the Kennesaw Mountain High School Chorus allows you to improve your vocal abilities and musical knowledge. Here are some specific skills you will develop:

• Vocal Techniques: Learn proper breathing, tone quality, and part singing.

• Sight Reading: Enhance your ability to read music and understand musical notation.

• Performance Skills: Gain confidence in performing with a group in front of an audience, which can be beneficial in various aspects of life. 

   

Build Lasting Friendships

 

One of the most rewarding aspects of being part of a chorus is the friendships you form. You will meet students from different grades and backgrounds who share your passion for music. These connections can lead to:

• Supportive Relationships: Make connections with friends who encourage and motivate you.

• Teamwork: Work together to create beautiful music, fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

• Social connectedness: Build connections with other students across different grade levels who share a similar interest with you. We have a variety of students in our chorus family, from magnet students, to athletes, to students involved in multiple fine arts programs!

   

Performance Opportunities

 

Throughout the school year, the Kennesaw Mountain High School Chorus participates in various performances, including:

• Concerts: We host two concerts in the fall semester, and one concert in the spring semester for family and friends.

• State Evaluation: In the spring, our groups perform for adjudication at the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation

• Braves Game: In the fall, our choirs will be performing the Star Spangled Banner at an Atlanta Braves Game in Truist park.

• Community Events: Our choirs are also involved in providing music for various school and community events, such as KMHS home football games, Veterans' Day events, and more.

Chorus Ensembles at KMHS​

Beginning Treble Chorus

All freshman and new treble (Soprano and Alto) singers will be a part of the Beginning Treble Chorus in the fall semester, then will move to the Advanced Treble Chorus in the Spring semester. The beginning treble chorus focuses on establishing a quality singing tone, while building a baseline of music theory knowledge to set the singers up to move into the Advanced Treble Chorus in the Spring Semester. This group will perform a variety of repertoire throughout the semester.

 

Advanced Treble Chorus

The Advanced Treble Chorus is comprised of Soprano and Alto singers in 10th-12th grades in the fall, with 9th grade singers joining in the spring. This ensemble focuses on the continued development of proper vocal and choral techniques. Students will continue to develop music sight-reading skills to an intermediate to advanced level, and will sing intermediate to advanced- level music with expression and technical accuracy. This group will perform a variety of repertoire throughout the semester.

 

Chamber Singers

Chamber Singers is an advanced mixed choral ensemble at KMHS. This ensemble includes 10th- 12th grade Sopranos and Altos and 9th-12th grade Tenors and Basses. This ensemble focuses on the continued development of proper vocal and choral techniques. Students will continue to develop music sight-reading skills to an advanced level, and will sing advanced- level music with expression and technical accuracy. This group will perform a variety of repertoire throughout the semester.

 

KM Cappella

KM Cappella is an extra-curricular, auditioned a cappella group open to 10th- 12th graders. This group meets after school twice a month and prepares unaccompanied selections of various genres. Auditions for KM Cappella take place in the spring semester.
